So last night was the first night of the year we dropped down to 0C. Fun. This means frost…also means I have to tuck my garden in at night with blankie’s. Yes, I was out there at 10pm last night covering it up with tarps and pieces of whatever I could find to prolong the inevitable. Mulch.
As I stand over the garden, past memories flash before my eyes…
how my wife probably looks like a drug dealer as she hands out bags of herbs and lettuce to her fellow westjet co-workers. I’m sure security has her on a watch list.
Making beetniks – my grandmother who is 93 faxed me her recipe. The day I make them for dinner, spend all day outside rolling them…baking…only to come in the house to prepare and finding them ¾ gone as my family munched on them. Grrrrr….
Best part was being able to send my grandma a care package with (batch number 2) beetniks, onions and a few bunches of beets from my garden. She used to do that for me when I was just starting out.
My son looking at me in total confusion when he pulls up a white carrot. That was funny…I guess you had to be there.
“why did you plant so many onions – we don’t eat onions” my wife says. My reply…”no dear, we eat onions – I just don’t tell you what I put in my dishes.” Another “I guess you had to be there”…
My tomatoes still suck – one day I’ll figure those puppies out.
Anyway… nuff said. Last pic of the year for the garden.
