What is currently happening in the Calgary real estate market? Is your home expected to sell quickly or will be expected to take longer than the average?
In a fast paced market, you may want search MLS® listings and find your new home first. You can write a "special clause" offer which will be subject to your current home selling.
In a slower market, you may want to get your current house listing on the Calgary MLS® first and see what kind of activity you have. You can ask for a longer possession date to give you time to find a new home.

Are there plenty of Calgary homes for sale matching your criteria? Or is there limited supply in your Calgary MLS® listings search?
If there are lots of MLS® listings available, you should be able to confidently sell your home first knowing there are plenty of available homes matching your criteria.

Lining Up Possession Dates
Once you have your sale and buy of your new Calgary home sorted, you also want to keep in mind the possession dates for each end.
I recommend you have your possession day of your home purchase at least 2 or 3
days before the possession date of your home sale. Ideally, over days you're not working!
This way you can take possession of your home and have a couple days to move and get your sold home cleaned and ready for the new home buyers.
