Just before Thanksgiving, I attended the South Okanagan Fall Wine Fesitval which is an annual even I look forward too as I'm an enthusiast.
The wine festival is a special time of year, not only are the wineries in the middle of harvesting grapes, they are also showcasing new releases from the previous harvest as well as hosting Special Lunches or Winemaker's Dinners with wine parings, private wine tours of the vineyard where you see the crush pad and learn the history of wine making.
There are also 'pick up' parties for those who belong to wine clubs..which by the way is a great deal for buying by the case.
For the wine enthusiasts, this is an event you will not want to miss.
Book your events early, space is always limited. Search South Okanagan Wine Festival and Festival of the Grape to get more information on next years event.
Transportation to and from the events is available through local wine tour companies. If you are on a 'self guided' tour, please have a designated driver.
On one of the days, I went for a hike on the Golden Mile Trail above Tin Horn Creek, located between Osoyoos and Oliver. I should have had a pedometer, I can't say exactly how far I went but the time was approx. 2 hours, out and back with time spent taking photos. The Autumn colours are fabulous at this time of year!
The apples are being picked, pretty much all the grapes are harvested and the temperatures are still almost 20 C.
Upon arrival back at my car at Tin Horn Creek, I went in to the winery to be greeted by their hostess serving fabulous Gewürztraminer at the door. What a way to end a hike!
I do have to say this winery deserves top marks for service, welcoming & knowledgable staff!
